Brand manufacturer
A well-known manufacturer of kitchen appliances sells its range via selected dealers and a standardized pricing system. However, it increasingly received reports of special offers from both authorized and unauthorized dealers. This led to a rapid decline in market prices, with each retailer blaming competitors for the reductions. In response, we collaborated to create a daily monitoring process for pricing among defined competitors and various platforms. Any deviations from the recommended retail prices were reported and documented immediately. Within a few weeks, the recommended retail prices were reinstated, and the monitoring cycle was subsequently reduced to once a week.
Bus travel company
A coach tour company faced significant challenges with pricing, as it was nearly impossible to obtain competitive pricing information. In collaboration with the company, we developed inquiry templates and identified key competitors. We conducted thorough inquiries, both in writing and via telephone, to gather information on these services. As a result, we discovered that our client had been underpricing its services and was able to increase its prices by 18%. We conduct this analysis continuously at six-month intervals and also monitor for new market participants, which we promptly evaluate.
International online trading company
Our client offers approximately 40,000 items, many of which are highly price-sensitive and available from numerous suppliers. Given the vast product range and the intense competition, pricing poses significant challenges. The use of price crawlers was ineffective due to ambiguous product descriptions and the absence of unique identifiers like EAN codes or manufacturer part numbers. To address this, we collaborated with the client to identify the most relevant competitors and platforms, simulating typical customer searches via search engines to uncover potential suppliers. This work was conducted manually and documented in our proprietary pricing software. Within just a few weeks, we implemented active pricing based on the client’s specifications. Sales prices were adjusted to match those of the lowest supplier, provided that specific conditions—such as minimum margins and availability—were met. In the final step, we automated the process of contacting suppliers whose minimum margins did not allow for competitive pricing. As a result, the retailer successfully reduced purchase prices by up to 40% at peak times and nearly 4% across the entire product range. We are continuing this project with great success.
Asian manufacturer of medical devices
A Japanese manufacturer of medical devices aimed to expand its market presence in Europe, in addition to its existing operations in Asia and America. In collaboration with the company, we identified key competitors and developed a comprehensive matrix detailing competitor trade structures, margins and end-consumer prices for hospitals and medical practices. After approximately three months of thorough research, the company successfully entered the European market with a precisely tailored product range and pricing strategy. We are currently conducting ongoing monitoring of price developments for this client, particularly focusing on competitor reactions to their market entry.
